B.M. Music Therapy (Stockton)

The B.M. degree in Music Therapy consists of four years of coursework and supervised fieldwork followed by an internship and leads to Board Certification in music therapy. (NOTE: Transfer students can expect to have three years of coursework and fieldwork prior to internship). In addition to the core music therapy and foundational music courses, students are able to take advantage of diverse course offerings at Pacific. Students can pursue coursework in psychology, biology, special education, physical therapy, sports science, and speech language pathology.

We strive to maintain a creative and individualized learning environment to prepare students for highly successful and rewarding careers in the rapidly expanding profession of Music Therapy through:

  • The Conservatory's outstanding educational and performance environment that supports the development of strong musicianship, an essential foundation for success in music therapy.
  • Dedicated music therapy faculty members who combine teaching excellence, scholarship, and real-life clinical experience to provide grounding in integrated theoretical approaches and supervised practice via community-based experiential learning.
  • Individualized faculty mentoring which prepares our students for placement in clinical training internships and jobs with specializations that match the student's interests, talents, and personal career goals.

The music therapy program provides a unique integrated learning model where classroom and fieldwork learning are interwoven across the entire curriculum.  Fieldwork within community settings provides students with direct hands-on experience with children, adults, and older adults. Students develop a wide range of skills, knowledge, and confidence through this experience. Following the completion of coursework, students are placed in full-time clinical internship programs.  After the Board Certification examination is passed, students receive the designation of Music Therapist, Board Certified (MT-BC) and faculty continue to assist our graduates in networking and locating job opportunities.
